Kevin Knox during his introductory press conference Friday at the Knicks' Tarrytown headquarters : Charles Wenzelberg
The other day the New York Knicks selected Kevin Knox from Kentucky with
the 9th overall pick in the NBA Draft. Now everyone knew they were probably going to take Knox with that pick but, the draft threw a wrench in just about every Knick fans idea of who we should be taking at number 9. And that wrench was Michael Porter Jr. from Missouri.
Nobody thought he’d be there at 9 including myself. I won’t lie, I was on the verge of hyperventilating at the notion that we could have arguably the best prospect in the draft even though he played nothing but, three games because of back surgery. The hype alone just threw the entire fanbase into a frenzy.
At that point why wouldn’t we take him, yeah the guy had back surgery but, he’s 18, 19 years old he’ll be fine think about that mystical word potential. But no we grabbed Kevin Knox and almost 24 hours later after the pick, I can say we did the right thing.
We have to remember this is the New York Knicks we’re talking about. Our franchise might as well be cursed. If something was to go wrong with that kids back, it probably would’ve gone wrong in NYC.
Kristaps Porzingis our franchise player, the best thing to happen to the Knicks since Patrick Ewing is recovering from a torn ACL right now. Why would we draft a guy with back issues serious or not?
13 other teams passed on him including us and I’m okay with that. Now at the time we drafted the Knox the guy I initially wanted in the first place, I wasn’t the happiest but, as a Knick fan, we’ve got to do better.
This is the third year in a row we’ve booed who the Knicks have selected Kristaps is borderline all-star and I think Frank is going to be pretty decent. Can we as a fanbase show some class? Can we be represented better at the draft?
It’s honestly embarrassing that I have to look at the same kid who booed KP while he’s wearing his jersey boo, Kevin Knox.
And honestly, ESPN needs to do better as well because they feed into the narrative. They found that kid and his fat dad in the stands waiting for a reaction to make us all look bad.
But ESPN wasn’t the only one, NBA TV found Knick fans that went on a tirade about the selection, not fans that were cool about the selection.
Steve Mills and Scott Perry made the right decision. Kevin Knox was the Co-SEC freshman of the year and he’s regarded to have a ton of upside at only 18 years old. Oh and most importantly he’s healthy.
The Knicks are finally trying to be a respectable franchise and it’s the first time I’ve ever seen it. So if you’re one of these Knick fans that are salty about the pick, do me a favor and get a grip!
