Damn Fiz, It Ain't Looking Too Hot

It's been 12 games into interim head coach Mike Miller's short tenure with the Knick and guess what? The fans love him. The new coach for the Knicks has a .500 record at 6-6.

If you haven't been following, Miller wasn't the coach at the beginning of the year. That was David Fizdale, a hire that was applauded by fans and media members alike. In the short time Fizdale was in charge(104 games), he coached the Knicks to a record of 21-83, which isn't good if you were wondering.

But if you listened to the national media, it wasn't Fizdale's fault the Knicks were terrible. The roster was atrocious; the Knicks missed out on Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving. They didn't get Zion, and Deandre Jordan left for Brooklyn as well. The Knicks decided to commit to 4 power forwards, and there was no way they could win.

If you were apart of that bandwagon, you weren't wrong. Fizdale coached the Knicks to a 4-18 record in their first 22 games. Fired, Fizdale now the sparkly new scapegoat for the Knicks has become, just another coach MSG has eaten up and spit out.

All you heard was Fizdale should be happy to get out of there, look what he had to work with. He was pretty much exempt from any wrongdoing but, Miller might have us thinking a little differently.

It has only been 12 games to Fizdale's 22 but, the Knicks look like a brand new team. Julius Randle seems to be the biggest beneficiary of the switch. Scoring 30 points in his 3 out of 6 games, Randle is starting to look like the player the Knicks envisioned when they signed him. His last 11 games he's averaging 22.6 points shooting 47% and 36% from 3, which is up from his dismal start.

The other substantial change fans have noticed is the spacing. It's creating more driving lanes, which is helping players like Mitchell Robinson, Randle, and RJ Barrett excel.

The fact that the Knicks have already won more games under Miller than Fizdale with less the third of the games don't look promising for Fizdale.

Fizdale was "scapegoated" Memphis and now New York. We know he comes from Pat Riley. Many Knick fans already share the same sentiment but, maybe the national media should take a look too. Perhaps Fizdale is just a bad coach, which okay.

Just because you're a "nice guy" doesn't mean your good at your job. Let's see how Miller navigates these Knicks through the season before we make any final assumptions, but there's no doubt the question has the everyday Knicks fan's eyebrow raised.
